wpid-wp-1446431575834.jpgI can’t believe that after all of the dreaming, planning and worrying we are finally here!

HELLO DENVER!wpid-wp-1446431589609.jpg

We have been here for a couple of weeks now and so far so good. We love our apartment and the area seems pretty safe. We are only a 20 minute walk from the beautiful Sloan’s Lake which is amazing!wpid-wp-1446431625882.jpg

The city itself is only a 15 minute drive away and the mountains are to the west of us and not too far away either. We have been busy trying to meet new people and get ourselves established in this city.

It’s so much harder moving to a western city than it was moving to Korea. You are so obviously different in Korea that it’s easy to meet other foreigners and people are willing to go out of their way to make you feel more comfortable in their country. Here, we are just like everyone else.

It also seems like people don’t really say hi to each other here in our apartment complex, I guess it’s big city syndrome but myself and Jason are both making sure to say hi to everyone (although we have gotten a few surprised glances).

We are still job hunting. I’m quickly realizing that when it comes to job hunting, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know and unfortunately we don’t know anyone here.

We’ve joined a website called meetup.com that has been a bit of a life-saver for us. It allows you to join different types of meet up groups (there’s a group for everything!). We’ve been to a couple of them, one was a dog walk in a city park and the second was at a dog friendly brewery in the city. It was definitely nice to meet some new people and make some contacts as well as seeing new places in the city. We have a few more coming up this week.wpid-wp-1446431550835.jpg

We also joined a website for expats and went to a meet up with them. It was so much fun and we met a girl that had also taught in Korea and a guy that had taught in Japan so we immediately hit it off with them.wpid-wp-1446431561246.jpg

I’m excited for what these next few months will bring (I’m really hoping, they’ll bring us both jobs!!).wpid-wp-1446431543233.jpg

But I’ll keep you updated.

  1. Welcome to Denver! I live here and hope that the city treats you well. I think overall you will come to find that people are nice, but are rather shy at home in apartment complexes. It’s odd. But when you’re out and about, at the store, or getting groceries, or the movies, etc, people are super nice!

What sort of work are you two working for? I work in real estate and would be happy to point you a few directions if you would like! Let me know and I’ll ask my friends if their industry lines up with yours! πŸ™‚

Again, welcome to Denver! It’s a beautiful city.

    1. Thank you so much!
It’s people like you that made us excited to move here. We have definitely met some really nice people here.
Honestly at this stage we are willing to work in any industry while we get more settled. My goal is to work in the travel industry but I’ve been applying for different jobs in different industries. I have a degree in Business Studies and a Masters in Food Marketing and my husband has a degree in Sociology.
If you hear of anyone that is hiring then we’d be so appreciative!!
      Thank you again!

  2. Welcome to Colorado. It’s seems you’ve arrived just in time for the weather to begin changing from warm to cold. As you may have learned in other places, don’t let the weather run your life, just dress appropriately and enjoy the outdoors . . . when you can. Enjoy!

    1. Thank you!
Yeah, for the first time in a long time I’m really excited for the winter. I’ve never lived anywhere with snow so I’m excited to try snowshoeing and other winter sports. Also, in Korea, they hardly ever turned on the heating in the schools so everyone had to wear their coats and scarfs in the classroom. Once my place of work has heating then I’ll be very happy πŸ™‚

  3. Not sure my last post came through….

WELCOME TO DENVER! I think you will come to find that people in apartment complexes here keep to themselves most of the time, but outside of that are quite friendly. You can strike up a conversation with just about anyone at the grocery store, the movies, the park, the mall, etc. πŸ™‚

What sort of work do you and your boyfriend/husband/friend(? πŸ˜‰ ) do? I can ask around my group of friends to see if someone is hiring. I work in real estate.

Let me know, and again, Welcome to Denver! I hope you find that it is a beautiful city and that it treats you well. πŸ™‚

    1. I love how much you love Denver…I’m constantly drooling looking at all of the restaurants that you post about! We are definitely enjoying it here but are so excited to get jobs so that we can enjoy it more carefree and not think about money πŸ™‚ I’m LOVING this snow! I think it’s the most that I’ve ever seen and we have nowhere to be so I think it’s a Christmas movie day!
