Hadong Green Tea Festival

Hands down, this was the most fun and relaxing festival that I’ve been to!

Hadong is a very small town close to Jiri mountain. There are many tea fields in the area but it is usually outshone by the bigger and more famous Boseong green tea fields.

Every Spring a green tea festival is held in Hadong and a few years ago myself and some friends decided to spend the weekend there.

We rented a couple of rooms in a beautiful pension that was close by to the festival. Like the Bull-fighting festival, Hadongs green tea festival is very small and not very crowded. Something that us foreigners love!

As you can see there aren’t many crowds here luckily!

My favourite part of the festival was the main area. In a big tent there were many people wearing Hanbok (traditional Korean dress). Each person had a different type of tea and you could sit down and have a traditional tea tasting ceremony with them. We got to try so many different teas while there. It was a great experience!

There were also the usual stalls selling some food, drinks and products. We also found a massage tent where for 5,000w we were able to get a foot spa and a hand massage. It was great value!

The festival was situated right on the beautiful river so our weekend consisted of relaxing on the giant boulders and taking in the peacefulness of the surrounding area.

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that we never actually went to see the green tea fields but I’m hoping to go to the Boseong green tea festival this year and actually see the fields.

Hadong is such a beautiful area of Korea and I think everyone (especially those living in the south) should visit it at some stage.
